About the orchard
Sheathed, Inc. pioneered the Healing Orchard as a community-centered initiative aimed at promoting holistic mental health, environmental stewardship, and collective healing. Funded through the Tree Canopy & Workforce Community Grant from Faith in Place, the orchard was intentionally developed as more than a green space—it is a living, regenerative, diverse environment that integrates nature, wellness, and community connection.
The orchard is currently made up of 10 trees including:

“EarliGlo” Peach
Belle of Georgia Peach
Buckeye Gala Apple
Pink Lady Apple
“Starking” Pear
Colette Pear
Ichi-ki-kei-Jiro Asian Persimmon
Chicago Hardy Fig
Montgomery Sour Cherry
Bonnie Almond
The Healing Orchard, also known as Trees for Trauma, is a dedicated space for hosting mental health support groups, healing-centered gatherings, and educational workshops that explore soil health, emotional well-being, trauma recovery, and social isolation. By grounding these activities in a natural setting, the orchard supports mind-body wellness, stress reduction, and opportunities for reflection and reconnection.
In addition to its mental health focus, the orchard was created through collaboration with community partners, workforce participants, and local organizations. These collaborations strengthen community ties, expand access to supportive services, and create pathways for shared learning around horticulture, sustainability, and environmental care. The orchard also contributes to increased tree canopy coverage and long-term ecological benefits for the surrounding neighborhood.
Overall, the Healing Orchard reflects Sheathed’s commitment to creating accessible, inclusive spaces that promote healing, resilience, and community well-being, while aligning environmental impact with social and mental health outcomes.
Please consider making a one time or recurring donation to assist us in maintaining the orchard and continuing out outreach and educational workshops!
